Upgrades & Improvements | Seller’s Words
We bought the house from the estate of Isabel Frid whose husband was the owner of Frid Construction. We new the house was solid.
We moved into the house February 1988. The first year was one of ceaseless renovation. My wife enthusiastically took on the role of general contractor coordinating the activities of numerous trades.
During the first year we replaced the oil-burning furnace with a high efficiency gas furnace that has been updated regularly since. WE installed central air conditioning also updated, from time to time, most recently, 3 years ago. We took down three walls in the kitchen, designed a new kitchen and replaced the small existing windows with much larger ones. We installed insulation in the attic. We installed a spacious office with a separate entry in the basement where I operated my psychiatric office until two years ago. We installed new windows in the office and preserved the original windows, some of which are curved, elsewhere in the house keeping out noise and cold air with magnetically attached plastic interior windows. We installed a second kitchen in the basement.
Six years or so after we moved in we upgraded the hardwood floors throughout the main and second floors. They are now the same colour as Blenheim Palace.
